animal (f*uck like a beast) by wasp kickstarted tipper gore's crusade against heavy metal in the 80's with all that pmrc business.

angel of death by slayer had them tagged as nazis which was a load of boll*ocks.

cant remember which judas priest song off the stained class album had them in court over the suicide and attempted suicide of a couple of kids in the states. they were ultimately cleared.

ozzy osbourne was always in trouble through the 80's before he became tv muppet...

yeah there's definitely nwa, bodycount, madonna, cradle of filth, laibach, dead kennedys, motley crue (read the dirt, its mindblowing and highly controversial), the who (keith moon), led zep (read hammer of the gods), the shamen (ebeneezer goode song), gg allin (holy sh*it!) etc etc the list is endless

Tori Amos has some controversial songs, which include: Me and a Gun - a true story about rape, 'nuff said Icicle - a song about masturbating to Jesus Smells Like Teen Spirit - possibly the most controversial cover song of all time Crucify God Father Lucifer Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin is quite controversial, because people believed that there were backmasked Satanic messages in them. Revolution 9 by The Beatles is controversial, because it's.....what it is. Listen to it, and you'll know what I mean. BA: Are You Experienced - The Jimi Hendrix Experience BA2: Look at the snow. BA3: I like helping people, and spreading the word about my favorite musicians BA4: No...and that's a good thing. Otherwise, everyone would be dead. BA5: I won't fight, but that's only because I can't - I don't have any morals or whatever when it comes to these people.

you should do a little shout out to NWA, no record ever was more controversial then the 1st NWA record, maybe Body Counts Kop Killer, lots of free speech controversy there...if your looking for some deep back ground, Elvis songs caused controversy...so did some Beatles songs, Helter Skelter/Manson link perhaps. Springsteen did a song called 41 shots that was about NY cops shooting a kid 41 times even though he was unarmed. Don't forget all the 80's metal, Judas Priest songs inspiring cereal killers or Ozzy songs promoting suicide...rock and roll is no good if it is not controversial...good luck.

the dude who said GG allen is right on...that dude is a great paper waiting to happen...oh my god, GG Allen...that brings back some awful memories!

In the 60s, "8 Miles High" by The Byrds was banned in many places b/c radio programmers thought is was a drug reference.

Same for Paul McCartney & Wings' "Hi Hi Hi" in the 70s.

Ice T's "Cop Killer" was Very controversial in the 90s.

how about "**** The Police" by NWA. or "Cop Killer" by Ice Tea. Very controversial songs when they came out because of the message it put out!
