My husband accidentally side swiped my friend's car when coming out of the driveway. Our deductable is $500. The estimates are ranging from 900-1200. The problem is, will our insurance go up a lot if I report it? My husband has a clean record, no other accidents.
Thanks.

Since you say you swiped a friend, i'd recommend not to report this incident. I'm not sure about how it is there, but here in Malaysia we have this thing called the "no-claims bonus". The amount you have to pay for ur yearly insurance goes down each year there isn't a claim made to it. The moment you make a claim, this bonus is reset back to 0%, so you'll have to start paying the full amount all over again.

Since it's a friend who's involved, you might as well try to settle it by yourselves. If money's the problem, maybe you can arrange to pay in installments or something. Just my two cents worth...

Don't report anything if you intend to pay for it yourself. Save yourself the ripoff of increased premiums-which is a nonsense.

However, if it was a stranger make sure you have an agreement signed that you will be paying for the repairs yourself and that there is no injury to answer. Otherwise you could have a dumbass compensation claim. I've had someone try this before-one guy was tapped from behind so lightly that there was barely a scratch on my bonnet. He attempted a b******* claim for whiplash. Thankfully company insurance had been notified.

Yes, your insurance premium will go up when you report the accident, as to how much: only your insurance carrier could tell you that.
