In gravel, I've been told a ton will go about 100 sq ft at about 2" thick. Is there a similar guideline for how far sand will go? I'm trying to estimate how much i'll need for the patio im building with brick.

If the sand/gravel combination is to be your brick patio foundation I would think that you want your sand extremely dense and well packed. This will change your calculations based on density and depth versus just a 2" surface spread. However, your original figure of 1 ton per 100s/f at 2" thickness would represent a fairly tight pack. Since you are mixing it with gravel I would pack it even tighter, but even still, I feel you may get even a bit more coverage than 100s/f - its better to have too much than not enough.

sand has less empty space so it probably covers less area. if you can figure out the density of sand you can calculate it pretty easily. i looked around for a minute and dont see any density measurements.
