I work as a cashier, and the other night I know I put 400 dollars in the safe and my manager is telling me I didn't put it there, I know I did! What are my rights, I feel like I don't have a chance against her. So I have to pay something back someone else took?

Tell him to put it in writing and then tell him to prove it. Take it to the Labor Board or call them. Don't take this lightly...make him prove it or accuse you formally. A lawyer should be involved if he does this.
I was a supermarket cashier years ago and everyday the bookkeeper would tape the amount the register was short from the previous day on all 8 registers. The amounts were all ove 200.00 and we were appalled. There was a supervisor/floor manager and a few of his friends who handled the money as well, collecting money every few hours for the front office. Turns out no body was every charged but these guys used to hit the race track every weekend. So you have to wonder....It made us all very uncomfortable.

Start with your State Labor Board. Then go to the police. Chances are, it is the person doing the accusing who took the money. I'll bet a police report was never filed in that case, so YOU file it. Offer to take a polygraph test. If you have the money, a private detective agency can help you find a private polygraph testing person. Do NOT take this lying down, and see what the police do. I'll bet you will be opening up a whole can of worms that will ferret out the real thief. By all means necessary, go to the owner of the company even if it is some big franchise.

If you have a loss prevention manager or human resources manager, get to them immediately. If you need to, go tot the police. But try the first suggestions before that. Also go to your manager's boss. If you are wrongly accused, then he/she should know about it.

If you didnt do it under no circumstances pay any money back whatsoever.

Tell her to get the police involved and watch her squirm.

go to the police your self and tell them the story then when she calls them you have one leg to stand on ask a lawyer and do what he/she says...if you pay then you will admit to taking the money so do not pay (look for a new job just in case)...

GOOD LUCK...........
