Is it because he got away with killing a white woman? I ask because in the same time, there have been a few high profile celebrity killings (Robert Blake and one of the Kennedy cousinscome to mind) where the killer got away with murder. And the not too distant past is filled with whites who got away with killing blacks, many of whom are just now being retried after all white juries let them off.

But something about OJ rankles whites more than any other killing. IMHO it's because he's black and his wife was white and that seems to bring out a tribal reaction among many whites because he killed one of their own. Ironic considering that so many of these same people insist that white racism is in the past and blacks should stop harping on about it. Kinda makes you go Hmmmm.

I am white and I agree with what this writer says about the hypocrisy of the white obsession with OJ. However, I think many African Americans have some pretty weird ideas about him too- like that he was innocent. I will say that the whole obsession is driven by a heartless and sensationalistic media industry as much by real interest.

Actually, it was not one of the Kennedy cousins. It was one of the Kennedys. The cousin was a rape charge.

Teddy got drunk, got in a wreck, and saved himself first. While he may do time for that today, getting killed by a drunk was more or less just "unfortunate" then. So, we voted him back into office last month.

OJ was found "responsible" in civil court, and so was Blake. Maybe someday Kennedy will be brought up on Federal charges for violating Mary Jo's civil rights - the country has changed since then. In fact, the change in this case is not racial at all - it is a gender issue. It seems to me that you may be having a bit of a problem letting go yourself. This isn't a race thing, it's a celebrity justice thing. All of the cases that you cite as examples are exactly the same, except for the difference in race in the OJ case. We all agree that they are all getting away with murder. Its just that Kennedy and Blake have the presence of mind to shut up and not try to milk a profit from it.

Honestly it has nothing to do with his color - it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that he keeps putting himself in the spotlight. And now by writing this book and basically laughing in the face of the justice system is only rubbing salt in the wound. I honestly can say I have never heard a white person say "he did it because he's black and she's white", but I hear black people say "you just think he's guilty because he's black" all the time. That is so wrong. I honestly feel it is just the fact that he was the first "star" to publicly get away with murder like that. It set a sick and sad trend in Hollywood. If Robert Blake were to pull the same stunts I would feel the same thing. I think he got away with murder as well. I feel I can speak from the heart about this. My aunt who was white was in a relationship with a black man and he murdered her - NOT because of the colors of their skins but because he is mentally ill.
I hope some day racism can be in the past, but sadly I agree with you there are too many narrow minded people too look beyond the physical of a person.

Dude. The guy just wrote a book basically thumbing his nose at the law enforcement who can't retry him for the same crime, even when he all but confessed to killing his wife.

He's being a giant, raging, self-satisfied jerk about it. That's why there's the continuing obsession. Don't make this thing racial when you know perfectly well it's not. Unless you're one of those people who wants to make everything a race issue.

The O.J. thing is disgusting because he seems to take such joy in getting away with cold-blooded murder. I don't see Robert Blake writing a book about killing his wife, do you?

I didn't think so.

I dont think anyone cares any more about OJ, white or black. To be honest I just wish the case would disappear, not because Im racist but because its over. I cant believe he is writing that ridiculous book for no other reason than, were roles reversed, I would just want to forget about it. I have to say, it pisses me off when a celebrity gets more 'news' than the average man anyway. I know of plenty murders that weren't solved, many horrific, but because they are an average Joe, the media doesnt care. Think you have to blame the media for this one.

Neither Blake nor the Kennedy got away with their crimes. Why should OJ get away with his, and make a fortune on it? Nothing white about it. Nothing black about it either. It-s just a matter of justice.
Why the ongoing obsession? It's OJ that has more or less dictated a book. Doesn't he want it talked about? If I wrote a book I would want people talking about it.

The outrage going on right now is not so much about his getting away with murder but his profitting from the crime and hiding his money so the civil settlement can't be collected. If he was doing this to pay the Goldmans it would be a different story.

personally it has nothing to do with race on my part. i find it despicable because he is saying "this is how i would have done it, if i had done it." that is SO disrespectful to his child, and the departed's families. regardless if he did it or not (which i believe he did but that's something totally different)
and racism and prejudices go more than one way. recently in my town two black men beat an elderly woman in a robbery of her home. when her son came to her house to see what was going on, they hit him over the head and burned him alive in front of his mother. they are now in jail awaiting trial. but don't think for one minute that if the situation was reversed and two white men had done that to a black man and his mother.... al sharpton and the "reverend" jesse jackson would be here demanding action, stating that their civil rights had been violated. none of this ever made national news. it's sad that racism exists but don't pretend that there isn't a double standard.

Kennedy's was an accident. Blake had the good sense to disappear from the public eye. perhaps it is your attitude that blacks should be allowed to kill whites every now and again to make up for other transgressions that wrangles people so. i notice that neither you or his jury seem to think that he was innocent, just that it was no big deal. kinda makes you go hmmm.

Has nothing to do with race my friend. It might look that way because of the publicity & the divide amongst the races.I always let the courts decide. It 's more to do with how big your wallet is & not whether your innocent or guilty.I'll tell you this though,if O.J. or Robert Blake messed with my family they would'nt make it to court. Now that's justice!!!!!
