This is the scene of the first meeting of Romeo and Juliet and one picks up the mutual attraction between them, with Romeo paying court and then panicking at the realisation that she was a Capulet and Juliet equally smitten panicking in case he turned out to be married, in which case "her grave would likely be her wedding bed". We also sense the tensions, with Old Capulet prepared to be tolerant to a young man of whom he has heard good things, while Tybalt can't get beyond the name of Montague and wanting to cross swords with him there and then and finally we have lines of oxymoron uttered by Juliet which really express the message of the play, namely:
"My only love sprung from my only hate!
Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Prodigious birth of love it is to me,
That I must love a loathed enemy."
That is her misfortune; that is her destiny. That chance meeting, in which the two fell hopelessly in love has sown the seeds of their misfortune.

This is the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time; I think that's pretty significant! The play has only a few scenes where the two are together, and this is the first.

This is when Romeo and Juliet meet, this is one of the four scenes they are together. It shows how Romeo suddenly falls out of love with Rosalyne and in love with Juliet. Juliet is at the party because Capulet wants her to meet Paris (they are to be married). It shows how everything is so rushed and very fast which runs thoughout the play and can be seen as the cause for the tragic ending!

It's probably the most important scene in the movie, since it's the turning point, and the actions following it make the story what it is.
Romeo goes to the party to forget Roseline.
Juliet goes to the party to meet Paris.
After one meeting and a 3 minute conversation, they are madly in love, because, you know, true love happens in 3 minutes or less.
After they meet and fall in love, they each realize who the other is, and what it would mean for their relationship.

Um... have you read it?
Check the Sources field for a link to that specific scene.
Notice which two people meet for the first time, about halfway through the scene.
Have you ever heard their names before, such as, perhaps, in the TITLE OF THE PLAY?
("Lord, what fools these mortals be...")
