There are some files out there you can put on your PC that have virus signatures but are not virus's. A quick goggle brought up this one:
http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm
Just put it in anywhere on your pc, run a virus scan, and see if it is detected. You should be able to delete it later. However the page spends a lot of time talking about problems with delete'ing it. I haven't had problems in the past.
You can goggle for others if you like. I know that there are others.

Personally, I have turned away from the expensive Norton's and MacAfey anti-virus packages and use a free version of AVG that runs great and keeps my PC virus free. Its already caught a bunch viruses and has a standard download of new virus files just like the big guys. It also runs more efficiently in the background. I hardly notice its there, but its been effective. You can get the free version it at download.com. No, I do not get a commission from them ;-)

If you see any sign of Norton anywhere, then as far as I'm concerned, it's not installed properly.
To put it another way, why are you using Norton - it's one of the worst products you can use. It slows your computer down and isn't even close to the top 10 products that protect you.

I too had the same problem on my comp when I got BT broadband. As previously stated by others, go to control panel, add/remove programs and select Norton, and make sure it removes all files, try again to run the software install tool on bt Yahoo and it should now let you do it.

Get rid of Norton and get a good antivirus program. Here you have some free options:

if you have a icon on your desktop that says norton internet security, double click it and a box should come up. to the left there is buttons like antivirus, protection, and so and so if you click on them they will tell you if things are turned on or off, if things are working correctly, and how many days are left in the trial.
Hope this helps!!

Make it run a scan!
If it scans, it's working.
