I may sound very unkind and maybe I am but I work at a custome service over the phone and people can get very rude sometimes, as you don't see them, how do you do to keep calm?

First of all I don't bring work home. If i'm stress or upset at work I don't take it on my family. As for annoying customers you are doing them a service so you only need to remind them of that. If they are flat out rude and cussing you don't have to take it, you can hang up on them. Also before you start work, just imagine having a great work day. Be very positive and relaxed. Have a picture of your loved one(s) or a vacation spot at your desk to remind yourself that the rude customers are at that moment NOT important. And reminder YOU control the phone call not them.

I worked in customer service for many years and now I am a social worker - so I REALLY have to work to make people happy. LOL
I look at it from two perspectives.1) I try to make each persons experience their best with me and approach it as a challenge to make them happy if they come to me unhappy. I stay calm and realize that 99.9% I am not the problem it is something else in that persons life that is making them difficult to work with and so I don't take it personally. (not always easy to do) 2) If I get a really difficult person I try to make it a challenge to turn that person around by the end of the conversation/transaction. But I also understand that there are just some people in life that want to be angry and not let it affect me or my next customer. I know it sounds hokey, but it is true - treat each customer how you would want to be treated.
I hope that helps you in some way and good luck!!!

Think of them as having the intelligence of a 12 year old. How futile is it to anger yourself with a child? They don't know anything, and that's the WHOLE reason they are calling you. Don't talk down to them, just matter of factual. Remember, you do NOT have to take abuse over the phone, and plainly state that you are ending this call due to their abuse. Hang up. If you reach a snag that is seemingly impossible to resolve, ask your supervisor can speak with them, because this person needs to feel more important. Your supervisor should be even more skilled at diffusing angry customers and is also able to offer compensation; which you do not have power of.

Think of how you would like to be spoken to, and remind them, you are doing your best to help them, that's why they called you. Be genuine in your voice.

Just keep a calm and pleasant voice so they can't say you were rude to them and they will have no other choice but calm down. If you get really annoyed just place them on hold and rethink what the situation is and try to come back and solve it quickly!

Ah! this is a tough thing to deal with isn't it? Ok here is the deal...REMEMBER THIS...that person is not mad at YOU they are mad at THE COMPANY you work for...don't take it personally...if it gets personal...consider the person unrefined and their parents dress them funny.. then picture them naked and running through rose bushes! YOU WILL LAUGH!
