there are several options open to you mate so i will explain them to you
1)you can run the 2 drives in a master and slave configuration,so what i would do is use your new drive as the master as its newer, and the older one as slave,if you look at the label on the drives you will see how to set the jumpers on the drives, you will have to re-install the operating system(windows xp) and during set up you should create extra partitions if you need
2)if you have the windows vista beta on dvd you can do a dual boot system, this is were you have xp on one disc and vista on the other,so when you boot up you will see the vista boot manager(as vista is the newer o.s) and you can choose what o.s to use
i have this on my system and its easy to set up,just install xp first, and then install vista on d drive, but remember that each operating system needs its own drivers and security software
you can dual boot with any version of windows(95,98,me,2000,xp,vista),but allways remember oldest windows first installed as each version has its own boot ini ,this is the part of the operating system that makes windows boot up
3) or you can get a external hard drive caddy and install your new drive in to that, and then insert it into a spare u.s.b socket
i would personally recommend you use the master/slave set up as all you need to do is fit the drive in a spare bay(remember to set jumper to slave ) and then boot up,windows will recognize the new disc and install all relevant drivers, you can then use this drive for extra storage, easing off the system drive(c)
any problems,let me know
good luck

Ok: On the rear of all Drivers CD/DVD/HD there is a jumper cable of sorts more of a pin connector. Set it against the pictogram on the device to be either master or slave. Now the one you have as your main windows program runner should be left as master. Set the Second one to Slave. Problem solved. It should Auto recognise your 2nd HD as a 2nd driver. Or e:/ ect. Hope it helps.

I assume you installed it as the master disk?
If so you will need to re-install your OS.
If you don't want to do that set the disk as slave and boot from the old one - copy anything you want to the new one to free up sapce and use that to store things in future.

You didn't set the master slave settings or depends on which serial port you put it on.
If it's on the same port as the other hard drive you need to set the hard drive master slave settings to slave. (there should be intructions on the hard drive to guide you to the settings)
If it's on a port by itself it needs to be on Master slave setting....this may be your problem! Good Luck
