That answer depends on what you're willing to do... you can put a 350 in it if you're willing to do some cutting and adjusting of the subframe and motor mounts, and installing a bigger transmission...otherwise a large 6 cylinder is about it.

Well this is only speculation but back in the old days the 4cylinder engine was a 2.2liter but the option motor was a 2.8liter 6 cylinder engine. I don't think the motor mounts have changed as the engine is the same. PS the 2.8 I had filled the engine bay I don't think you can go much bigger than that without cutting.
