I would check out the Ludwig Accent CS drumset. For around $400, you get everything you need including cymbals. If you go with the Pearl Export you'll end up spending around $800 with cymbals. I'd say the quality of the shells is about on par with the Pearl Forum drumset, but the price is much better. All of the entry level drumsets are being made in China (probably in the same factory), so you should just go with the best price. I would stay away from the store brands, since they'll be much lower in the support/parts area. If you ever have a problem with the Ludwig, you should be able to go to any Ludwig dealer for help.

You can find it online at major percussion retailers.

All depends on your price range and how modivated you are to play.If your not sure if you will stick with it you should start at a cheaper price set .Pearl, ludwig, tama are some really good quality kits from prices ranging from $500.00to $5000.00.If you want to get a cheaper kit to diside if you will stick with it pulse is a fair price kit.Check out musiciansfriend.com they have very good prices and this can give you a idea of what you will get for money.goodluck

cheap one, don't splash out cus u still wanna practise and know ur style, ie what toms and hihats you want. ask to try out sum kits and don't buy until you like the feel of what you play.

be sensible too. if you're a beginner you're not gonna want too many cymbals or a double pedal.. really you just want something to attack and learn on, so don't bother getting a high performance. have you tried buying them piece by piece?

I know it is a bit pricey but if you dream to be famous then go for it. if your good enough. buy Zildjian cymbals.
