You must contact the council immediately. Did you get a parking ticket (technically caled a Penalty Charge Notice) or a Notice to Owner? If you did not you must contact the council. If you did - did you appeal? If you did appeal the council must send a letter of rejection against your appeal against the Notice to Owner before issuing the Charge Certificate for £120. The Notice of rejection allows you to appeal to the Parking Adjudicator.

Go to the council and explain about this,or contact your local councillor,he should be able to sort this out.Do not panic if the debt collectors come around,I know that this is easy enough for me to say,but stay calm, legitimate baliffs will have a court order to seize goods to the value of the fine, they must always be accompanied by a police officer explain the situation to him/her.
If they do take anything, just think of the compensation you will get for wrongful seizure of property! You are not alone in having problems with car parking wardens from tin pot companies contracted by councils, just remember that this job is not very demanding intellectually and this is reflected in the calibre of the people doing it;therefore mistakes are very common!A friend of mine had this problem,it was dealt with via the council department responsible

Don't you have 28 days to appeal? It is well worth doing so. Parking adjudicators are sensible people who will deal with your case in a small office where you will sit down facing them to explain your side of the story. They will already have studied the facts of the case as sent in by yourself with your appeal papers. http://www.parking-appeals.gov.uk/
