Could be a virus . If all your wires are plugged in properly and the speakers are new then i couldn't think of anything else , unless you have your Wave Volume down . There are 2 different volumes to hear sound from your pc , there is the volume control and the wave. Make sure both are turned up.

go to sound manager icon in control panel and click on equilizer tab and ckeck the sound settings
also check volume control.
also check if you have plugged the speakers into the proper socket
try installing the latest drivers from the net for the sound card
if that doesent work check the sound card itself by replacing with a known good one.
also try hardware trouble shooter on your computer if nothing else works. it is designed to help you

DUDE CHILL.. IT'S NOT A VIRUS...
IT'S EITHER UR SOUND CARD OR THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES ALONG WITH UR SOUND CARD...
THAT SOFTWARE IS BASICALLY THE 'REAL' CONTROL PANEL OF UR SOUND..
JUST SEARCH FOR IT ON UR COMPUTER..
IT'S BE SOMETIHNG LIKE SOMETHING SOMETHING SOUND MANAGER OR SOMETIHNG... MESS WITH THE OUTPUT AND INPUT BUTTONS ON IT.. AND UR PROBLEM SHOULD BE SOLVED..

OH YEAH.. BEFORE U DO THAT.. TRY THIS.. JUST DOUBLE CLICK ON UR NORMAL VOLUME CONTROL AND CLICK ON OPTIONS -> ADJUST PROPERTIES... AND JUST MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING ON THE 'PLAYBACK' OPTION IS CHECKED...
IF THIS DOESN'T WORK THEN DO WHAT I ASKED U TO DO FIRST..

look into your speaker and sound recommendations in the administration panel... confirm your audio equipment are working/plugged in... is your laptop muted? that should be an argument... if all else fails, take it to geek squad or staples and that i'm specific they could be sure what's incorrect...
