It's one of my favorites but there are a lot of albums that rival it.

Not even close.

Pig Destroyer: Prowler in the Yard
Cryptopsy: None So Vile
Brutal Truth: Need to Control
Deicide: Scars of the Crucifix

all these make Reign In Blood sound like a child's singalong

In fact it is a Thrash Album which is no-where near as extreme as Death Metal, Black Metal or Grindcore.

No itss not, but it is probably the greatest speed/thrash metal album ever. I used to work with a few nu-metal types and even they had to admit stuff like sepultura sounds pretty tame after reign in blood. Its a shame slayer get so overlooked for their image and the hysterics that surround the lyrics etc, they are a truly great band.

I agree that album is extreme, but i reckon Brujeria are heavier and more extreme. They're a supergroup featuring members of Fear Factory, ex-Faith No More, Ministry and Napalm death. Try their compilation cd The Mexcutioner! for size. And wear earplugs!!

it's a damn fine album, but not the most extreme of all time-it's not even the most extreme slayer album, have you heard god hates us all, it's insane-it's about as extreme as i listen to, but it's thrash & thrash is not as extreme as metal gets, i think the most extreme title should go to a death metal band, like deicide or someone.death metal's not really my bag but i've heard decapitated & they're mental.slayer.brixton.monday.

nah, but its probably the best thrash album of all time. for extreme i'm going with scum or from enslavement to obliteration by napalm death. maybe not extreme by todays standards but untouchable back in the day... or scratch or stitch by melt banana ha ha!
