Congratulations! I'm the mother of 10 month old twins.

Here are some facts about twins:

1. Identical twins are from one egg that splits. It's a random thing that just happens and every pregnancy has a 1 in 250 chance of resulting in identical twins.

2. Fraternal twins happen when the woman produces two eggs. This is where your family history is relevant. (Your husbands family history of twins doesn't matter because he can't make you produce two eggs.) If the twins on your side of the family are fraternal then you have an increased chance of twins.

3. Fraternal twins are also more likely with the more pregnancies you have. With each pregnancy your chance of twins increases. So if this is your fourth then you've got a really good chance!

4. The likelyhood of fraternal twins also increases with age. I read about a study which shows that women over 35 produce more of some hormone which makes then more likely to produce two eggs per cycle.

I would definately talk to your doctor at your 10 week appointment and get an ultrasound to find out. I know that with my twin pregnancy my symptoms were really exaggerated (because you have twice the hormones!)

Twins are alot of work but such a huge blessing. Congrats either way on your growing family!

I am 13 weeks preg with my 3rd and I am also feeling so huge. I also have twins that run on both sides of my family. I go to the doc in a cupple days to have an ultrasound to see if there is more then one. If we are not preg with twins then the best I can come up with is that we have had so many kids that our bodies are just explodeing when it gets that pregnancy hormone lol. I havent gained alot maybe 3 lbs so far but man do I feel like Im getting huge quick! God Bless u and ur pregnancy. I pray u get exactly what u desire. PS. my sister is a cupple weeks farther then me and just found out she is having twins with her first!!! WOW.

I always looked bigger. With my third, I was also HUGE. I LOOKED like I was having twins. I am a small person anyway, and I looked like a had eaten a giant watermelon. Most people that saw me thought I was having twins too. But, there was just my son. Just one. He WAS a big baby though. he was born 10 days early and weighed in at 8lbs 15 oz. I DO know that with each child your muscles are more stretched and you can very well look bigger each time. You could always have an ultrasound done early if you are really curious. Good luck to you.

At only 6 weeks what you are feeling wouldn't be caused by twins. It's possible that you might have twins but it's too early for that alone to cause what you are feeling.

With each pregnancy your uterus, the ligaments attached to your uterus, and abdominal muscles all get stretched out and don't return completely to their pre-pregnant size. So - each pregnancy it is quite normal to begin 'showing' and feeling the enlargement earlier. In all likelihood because your uterus is slightly larger than in previous pregnancies at this stage (6 weeks) it is probably putting more pressure than you are used to on your other pelvic organs and tissues, such as your bladder. Unless you are experiencing other unusal complaints such as pain or cramping (which might indicate a bladder infection) you don't have anything to be concerned about.

the more kids you have the more stretched your uterus is after each birth. Its normal to feel bigger earlier because its your fourth kid.your uterus has stretched alot 3 different times already. Twins? ask your doctor. they can tell when they listen to the heartbeat if there are 2 or 1 in your tummy. and seeing how it is common on both sides of the family, it is a possibility.. but expect this pregnancy to be a little more uncomfortable then the rest of them were. on the upside, labor will be a sinch!! Congratulations mommy! take care

Wow, it certainly sounds like more than one in there! Having had three already you will know the diference. Mind you there are twins all the way through my mums family and my ex-husband is a twin but I've had two single births and all my cousins have two or three kids each and none have been twin births, so it doesn't mean anything.

Report that bugger above, he deserves to lose some points for that comment. Idiot.

Anyway, usually you do get bigger with each pregnancy, because the muscles have already been stretched, and so basically stretch alot quicker the next time round. The fact it's your fourth, is probably why you're feeling like this. My friend had twins, and by 10 weeks was unable to do up her normal jeans, so you do grow very rapidly. When you see your midwife for your booking apt, she will send you for a scan if she feels you're unduly big.

Before you do anything else, go and take out insurance against having twins. It'll cost a few pounds, and pay out about £3000. You have to do this before you have a scan, or any confirmation that you're expecting twins.

As for feeling huge - I knew I was pregnant within a week, was huge, my Dad's a twin etc. but I didn't think it could happen to me.

It could, and it had.

Best of luck.xxxxxx

There is a chance that you could be caring twins or triplets. Don't count on it, but with 3RD and 4Th pregnancies it is common. Especially when it runs on both sides. And Age has a roll to play in that as well. But only your doctor will know for sure. Don't worry, enjoy being pregnant and wait until your next doctors visit.

I'm about 7/8 weeks now and my jeans are feeling tighter already. I haven't put on ANY weight though?? I think its just our hormones running riot causing pmt like symptoms like bloatedness. I think your muscles start relaxing already too so it may be your tummy muscles relaxing and making room for baby?? I wasn't this bloated in my first pregnancy so it feels odd this time round!!

by the way, your uterus is about the size of a grapefruit now so maybe its just that stretching earlier cos its your fourth child? My sister got bigger quicker with each baby and she's had 3 kids now.
