Make a solution of 1 teaspoon of table salt and 1/2 glass of warm water, stir it up, do NOT gargle - just put your head back and lower your tongue and let this solution lay at the back of your throat. Do this several times, and spit. Do not rinse. Do this 3x a day. Follow this with 1 tablespoon of liquid honey. Do NOT swallow this all at once, let it melt and slowly go down your throat. Honey is the most natural healing agent! All cough medicine, cough drops, etc, have honey in them. Also a bunch of other things you don't want! - Peppermint candies are also soothing on a sore throat. This is a naturalistic remedy. It will not hurt your baby or your breast milk, and it WILL Cure you. Do not kiss the baby while you have this and make sure you buy a NEW toothbrush when the infection is cleared. Do not reinfect yourself, with a dirty toothbrush.

If a sore throat is the only symptom (no fever, congestion, sinus pressure, etc.), it might be strep. You may want to visit your Dr. ETA: Peppermint is supposed to help you dry up your breastmilk, so I wouldn't recommend peppermint tea. But any other tea would help. Thera-flu tea is good. Mother's milk tea promotes lactation and is hot and it will soothe your throat.

Take a minimum dose of ibuprofen or paracetamol, just after you breastfeed. That way, there won't be a strong amount of medication in the next lot of milk.
I was told about this by a breastfeeding consultant.

Sore throat sprays or lozenges are generally considered safe, as are cough drops. Avoid eating excessive amounts of cough drops containing menthol. Large amounts of menthol can reduce milk supply.

Many forms of Robitussin, Delsym and Benylin are considered compatible with breastfeeding. Always check the active ingredients, as there are many versions.

ETA:
Ibuprofen *IS* approved by the AAP for use in nursing mothers.
