Its always been like this. People are uneducated therefore anything new or different to them is frightening and instead of maybe trying to learn from it they are scared and automatically shut it out and discriminate against it. It is so awful but everyone does it in some way. It could be blacks and whites, fat people and skinny people, chinese and american, country music and rap music. Its such a broad subject and it will never change. People like you and myself can find comfort in knowing we to the best of our ability do not discriminate against anyone for the way they choose to live their life. If more people could be like that alot could change in this world but i don't see that happening. The human race has a better chance of becoming extinct from man killing man because of hate.

I find MOST of society quite tolerant in general, and only a minority really bigoted or narrow-minded. (But I don't live in the US, and from what I've seen on here, I assume it's worse over there.)

The world would be awful if everyone was the same. Most people I know think that.

It's a hold-over from adolescence.
The need to conform to the group is incredible when going through the "change" into adulthood. Group mentality is basically setting pecking order and re-setting pecking order over and over again. Those who are different are not winners and shunned.

Once we reach adulthood, ideally we can step back and take a broader view of life and it's mechanizations.

Because some people are idiots, the world would be boring if we were all the same, but what I try to do is everytime I see a negative statement I try to to put a positive one up but it always gets violated

some are raised by bigots...and taught to hate. a lot of people are afraid of anyone/anything that is different....and that fear often turns hate. some are just ignorant. unfortunately, without education, and attempting to get to learn about diversity, people will just remain intolerant.

They dont.

But for those insecure enough to need to put people down, its always safer to put down people on the fringes of society.
