Most Sunday comics are edited by third-party companies and then those outlays are purchased by the local newspapers and they print them. That's why it's so hard for most local newspapers to change what comics are offered. The Monday through Saturday comics are easier to change.

I believe the Cleveland Plain Dealer either has it's own contracts or the parent company of the PD has one. I know the PD prints two local strips: Flo and Opus. They also print Crankshaft and Funky Winkerbean which are more nationaly known but are penned by Northeast Ohioans.
