Because there aren't any good candidates. You don't get past the local level of politics without having a few skeletons in your closet. Politics are too corrupt these days.

Emma Goldman once said " If voting counted they would make it illegal". Although, personally I think it has a lot to do with PR. Politicians speak in such esoteric and general terms that people no longer understand the imperative of voting. It is a problem that needs to be addressed, we should go the route of Australia or make election day a national holiday.

Because more and more people are waking up to what this two party system amounts to. The illusion of choice created by those with power to keep those without power in line.
I vote, but I do it knowing it won't change anything until we cut the influence big money has on elections and the candidates we are given to choose from.

because the concept of one vote having the ability to make a difference, is hard for us to accept. Elections have recently become so negative that people feel like they are going to vote for the "Best of the Bad". Deep down, I think we all want to think our elected officials are a step above the rest, at least morally.

Many people (a) Don't find anyone they like, so why vote?, (b) Feel that their vote doesn't matter because their canadate won't win anyway, (c) If they don't have certain restrictions that keep them from it, they know they could be called for jury duty. Many people don't want to do that.
