Since she's a little over 24 weeks the baby is able to survive. Any earlier and the baby would not survive. My friend went into labor at about the same time. Don't worry, it will be a rough time for her, but everything with work out. Just be there for her and give her love and support. They will put her on high doses of antibiotics and other things and they will try and hold off the delivery for as long as possible. She can be in that situation for up to two weeks. Every day that baby will gain an ounce, each day is critical........tell her to hold, everything will be okay. My friend's baby is doing great, 1lb. 12 oz. he was.......Just thought you'd like to hear a happy thought of someone who's gone through it. Good luck and our prayers will be with her.

At 24 weeks they consider that the baby is viable (it can live on it's own.) The doctors have some things they can do to try to prevent labor, but for the most part, if the water breaks, baby is on the way. Most likely the baby will be in the hospital for a couple weeks till it is breathing on it's own and can nurse. Your friend will be in my prayers. I'm 19 weeks along and I worry about that kind of stuff all the time.

Wow, thats really early. The baby does have a chance, but it may be slim. But doctors can do wonderful things! The baby will be in the hospital after being born for quite some time, but the more time the better so he/she can become healthy. This is going to be a very stressful time. I feel so bad for all of you. I sometimes forget how lucky I am. My daughter was born right on time...actually a few days late. She is very healthy. But I have seen children born as early as your friends baby will be and they are completerly fine now. Good Luck. Let us know how things go. I will be praying for the family and baby....and you! Oh, yes they will have to deliver the baby. Probably by cesarian.

My water broke at 20 weeks and I delivered 12 hours later. They (twins) did not survive. The doctor did say though if I would've been 24 weeks they might would have had a chance to survive because their lungs would have been somewhat more developed.

When your water breaks, you have to deliver. Once the amniotic sac has ruptured, there becomes the chance of bacteria getting in, so labor will have to insue shortly thereafter, either on its own or induced. When your water breaks prematurely, as in your friends case it is called PROM. ( Premature Rupture Of Membranes) I had this happen with my first at 35 weeks. While your friends' baby is very very early and will have a long haul ahead of him/her, medicine now days is spectacular, and there is still hope! They CAN give them a shot to help prepare the lungs. I wish the best for her and her baby and pray they will be o.k. Just be there for her.
BTW..my son was 5 weeks early, and although he respiratory distress syndome at birth, he only had to stay in the hospital 5 days. It would have only been 4 but he got jaundice and had to stay under the bili lights for a day. Jaundice is very common for preemies.

At 25 weeks the baby can survive out of the womb, if she's 6 months that would be 28 weeks? They will have to deliver the baby, you can't replace the waters. The chances of survival are really good. The baby will likely be hooked up to a few different machines to help the baby breath, eat and continue to grow. The baby will be at higher riskes for medical probelms, like cereable palsy, deafness, blindness ect. I have heard of baby's born at 25 weeks who are compleatly normal and big for their age.

I had my child at 6 month's he weighed only 2 lbs. My water never broke but I went into labor. If you believe in God then pray. My son is perfectly fine now. He is just on the small side. He had to stay in the hospital until he was 5 lbs. It took about 3 months. Hopefully her baby is well enough developed to live. Let us know what happens and I will be praying for her.

Not sure what the chances of survival are, but yes, they will have to deliver the baby. The embryonic sack (full of water) is what keeps the baby from getting infections and in a safe environment. Not sure what is the rate of survival for 6 month old embryos. Pray for a miracle.

They will have to deliver the baby...tht is the only option......as far as suvival, you never can be sure, but they say that after 6 months along, the outcome is usually pretty good.....my friend had 2 premies, and each one was born11 weeks early and they both did fine.......the baby will likely be sent to a baby ICU....and probably remain there for a few weeks at least.....Just know that there is a reason for everything and a plan for everybody, and everything will be ok.

"6 months" is a little vague - at this stage every single week counts for a lot when it comes to the baby's health.
Hopefully they will just put her on bed rest for a while. Amniotic fluid CAN be replaced - naturally (her body continues to produce it) or artifically. However, if it is a large tear in the sacs labor will probably begin on its own. Hopefully it is just a leak, or only the outer sac (there are two) broke. In that case she may be able to continue with the pregnancy.
Babies born at this stage of pregnancy have a real struggle a head of them. If they survive they may face many problems. Every single week of pregnancy counts and improves their chance of survival, and their chance of surviving healthy.
