My supposed "best" friend has been lying to me for the past 6 months about something very personal

I only just found out the truth yesterday from another girl who is NOT her best friend

Should i confront her about the truth and cause friction or shut up and stay smiling?

It depends on your definition of the words (best) friend. We all assume that because we call each other that, we must tell each other everything. Now, if she is lying about something serious, then confront her. If you feel she has betrayed you in any way, speak to her. And if you feel hurt as to why she told someone else the truth and not you, you might want to gently bring it up. Maybe say "I know about....." My best friend of 25 years lied to me all the time. I considered her my (best) friend, so it bothered me enough to confront her. She of course denied everything. She eventually stopped speaking to me because I was on to her. If you respect her as a friend and know how she will respond, speak to her. Otherwise leave it alone. You might question the word (best) friend though. Good Luck because whatever you choose it's a gamble.

Well if its going to eat at you all the time, it's probably best you confront her and tell her how hurt you are by it. it will give her a chance to tell her side and hopefully then you can work it out. By leaving it and pretending you know might not do you any good. If you are really good friends, you should be able to work out anything.

tell her the truth but don't get mad at her. it's the only way to know way she did not tell you, she might have a good reason for it. don't waste your friendship just because of her keeping something from you and being best friends doesn't mean telling EVERYTHING to one another. just consider this incident as a trial on your friendship. and after you get pass this you will realize that your relationship with your friend has stronger foundation.

I think it depends on how serious the matter is. You have to weigh between how important her friendship is to you vs. the seriousness of the personal matter.
