It's called trolling. Trying to provoke an argument or stir controversy.
People are posing these 'questions' as a thinly disguised way to make political statements, usually highly disputed ones. They only listen to people who already agree with them, and it's pretty much wasted effort for anyone else to respond. If you notice, it's also usually the same people posting the same questions over and over.

I think you hit the nail on the head : we're all just seeking confirmation of our beliefs from like-minded people. I think it's because each "side" is absolutely convinced that not only isn't the "other side" listening, they're most assuredly going to run this country into hell in a hand basket.
In all fairness, you have to admit, there are an awful lot of issues going on right now. People have to have someplace to vent. Better in here where nobody really gets hurt than out in the public arena. Can you imagine what the streets would be like if the bashing that goes on in here was vocalized?

Coragryph is on target. Trolling...and some of the most rampant I have seen in my years involved with computers and the internet. If one looked through the questions only, they would think that there were only two sides to this when in actuality, the viewpoints run from A to Z and all points in between. Sadly, some people refuse to acknowledge that there are many varying shades in this area. And even sadder still, the foolishness one can find written here in YA runs the gamut from sublime to ridiculous. The extreme views in my opinion only, are from those who just enjoy rattling someone else's cage, being a p*ssant, and trying to pick a fight over the internet. And we all know the futility in that.
Trolls...just trolls.

They are just looking to confirm their beliefs from others, of course. If you ask me, it's a lot harder to stand up for your convictions than it is to be against something. It would be very easy for me to join the BDS fray ( by BDS I mean Bush Derangement Syndrome ), but that's not my style. We are fed so much negativity from the main stream media, it's very easy to for conclusions from that. It's the positives from this administration that we never hear......

Democrats do hate America and GW isn't that bad of a president. Democrats didn't have anyone to win the office with so GW is there. Democrats are just mad like always. They will start name calling soon.

Some people are so one track minded no real intelligent questions can penetrate that track.

You need to learn that most people here don't talk to each other. They talk at each other.
