Scientists have calculated that an Asteroid will come within close proximity of Earth sometime around then. I doubt it will actually hit us though.

Absolutely not.
Comets have hit the Earth before, some (small of course) probably hit Earth everyday.
Also, we have enough technology to prepare for this, and possibly send up some spacecraft, to destroy this comet.
We have proved it is possible to land on a Comet, and some machines have.
The next step is to learn how to destroy them, we can also use their rescources for our benefit.
Sooner or later, all the countries will be getting rich by taking rescources from other planets or asteroids, as they become scarce on Earth, like gasoline.
And if it does, no comet that has ever hit earth has destroyed all life on it. You'd have a chance to live depending on where it hit. Something had to survive, cocroaches have been around since dinosaur times, and if an asteroid hit Earth and knocked out the dinosaurs, the cocroaches managed to survive.
God bless.

nobody has any knowlege of any object that is goint to destroy the Earth anytime in the forseeable future. It could happen any time, like tomorrow we just didn't see it comming. There are only a handfull of Astronomer catalogueing near Earth objects, they haven't even got a third of them done yet.

Nope. He's an idiot. We know of no comets on a collision course with Earth. I would report him to the school board if I were you - he obviously doesn't know much about the subject he's teaching.
