My sister was touching my dads computer and when we saw the screen there where about 10 of each icon (example: 10 my computer, 10 internet explorer icons and so on). I tried deleting the extra icons but everytime you turn the computer back on, the icons are back. I tried restoring the computer but it says it can't restore, and its not connected to internet so I don't think it's a virus. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong in trying to remove the extra icons?

I think you've picked up a joke application from somewhere. An easy solution will be to go to the task manager(press ctrl+alt+del), press the process tab and check for any unusual process running, if you find it end the process and the try to find the same application file in your windows' system32 folder, delete it and if the above does not come to use download AVG antivirus its up for free.

Thats a new one on me, and I've been at this for a while. If you cant restore, then I would bet you $1 that you do in fact have a virus. If you dont have an antivirus, go to http://www.avast.com and get their free one for home use.

Schedule a boot time (startup) scan with whatever AV you have.

Right click on the desktop and go to properties. Click the desktop tab on the display properties window. Go to Customized Desktop and click 'restore default'.

There may be many reasons for this problem. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful
