that's called dropsies. It's a disease that fish get. Very serious. I once had a fantail with it, but antibiotics seemed to help. Go to the pet store and get some antibiotics. Good luck.

It's a bladder problem.
Fast the fish for a couple of days, then feed it unskinned peas that is boiled or steamed then mushed. Do this for about 3 days, 2 times a day. Use a net to fast it and to feed it.
If you can, separate the fish, add a bit of salt and raise the temperature gradually to about 78 Degrees.
I just had that problem, and i fixed it by doing so.

I had this take position to me with my sons first goldie...the numerous reason i replaced into informed by people on the following replaced into that it replaced into a million. in too small a tank and replaced into being killed by its personal waste. 2. that i'd were over feeding it 3. That the ranges in my aquarium were off. My sons new goldie is doing purely nicely...with common water adjustments and some salt that the petstore informed me to do to neutralize undesirable bacteria he's a swimmin champ yet doesn't favor to vaccum his floor. not confident how 100% those issues to attempt are besides the undeniable fact that that is easily worth a attempt. I also tryed the frozen pea ingredient with the first one and it purely did not eat it, yet I have study elsewhere on line it facilitates. solid success, that is gloomy even even as a fishy chum is sick...ya purely experience helpless i desire it perks decrease back up and issues flow decrease back to well-known.

your fish has swim bladder
put him in a bowl of fresh water add tap safe and a tonic to help him
starve him for 24 hours he'll change the water milky change the water and add the tonic again give him a small bit of food.
keep repeating the process and see how he goes fantails have gut problems and always will if you over feed them and keep the tank dirty.
there is no need to flush him down the loo just yet.

Swim bladder, caused by taking in air at feeding time, with cold water fish, always put the food into the water, not on the top, you could get something once for this ask your fish shop

TAKE HIM/HER TO THE VET!!!! IMMEDIATLY IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN!!!! but sometimes its just defense. If it gets super serious i'd reccomend not feeding it TOO much food because the "swelling" could actually be bloating. But as for the swimming upside down thing, IDK. just if it gets more serious go to the vet.
You can also try diffrent brands of food because my dog kept puking when we gave her a certain brand of food!! GET WELL FISHY!!
