It happens very slowly. I lost my Princess, a Doberman lab mix, nearly 11 years ago. I also still miss my hamster dead for more.
In my case, I have others to love. Abbey needed a home and came into my life the day after Princess had to be put down due to cancer in her mouth.
Abbey was immediately nicknamed "The little princess," a bulldog and Lab mix, she was and is so much like Princess.
To this day, however, I can still see Daisy in her ball, rolling round the floor with Princess watching and sometimes gently batting the ball. She never tried to hurt Daisy.
The reason I wound up with Abbey is because I was so lonely and sad, and Princess would not have wanted me to be alone or sad. I hope for you that one day soon you will wind up with another hamster or someone else to love. Though one will never replace another in our hearts, the new one makes their own special place. When the time comes, you will find joy in the memories while building new memories with your new friend.
A big, BIG hug for now. Take care!

I've had dogs all my life. Granted, a dog isn't a hamster lol, but i remember each and every one of them and how they died. For instance, one dog i had, (we live in a little town with about 100 people in it) was playing out front of the house with some of the neighborhood kids. One of the little girls that was playing with the dog ran out into the street. My dog ran out into the street after her and knocked her out of the road thus getting the dog ran over by a pickup truck. The dog saved the girls life. I watched the entire thing happen, the dog got up, walked back across the street (staggering) i sat down on the ground, she layed in my lap and that's where she died. If you get really attached to animals like i do, It's hard, and i remember telling myself, i'll never own another dog. But, i found that as time goes on, i was never really happy without a dog. So i end up getting another, knowing the possibilities and the probabilities. Like the dog will probably die before i do. But i get another anyways because that's when i'm truely happy. My suggestion to you, would be to get another one. That one will never make you forget, nor replace the previous one, but it will help in making it easier for you to deal with. I hope that helps and good luck:)

I know how you feel... my classroom pet just died. My friend had taken him home for the summer and we had so much fun..so when Bo... (the hamster) died I cried so much. Just remember you can never really through that pet out of your mind... it's ok to cry. You loved your hamster and it will take a long time for your heart to mend. You will still have memories though. I hope you feel better. :)

It is very hard. They come to be apart of the family no matter how big or small. You look forward to when you can see or play with them next. When they die it is like you have nothing to look forward too. I would say that time will heal the pain but in the process get another animal to give all your love too and hang on to the memories you had with the one that died.

Some people find it hard to believe that it can hurt so much to lose a friend (pet). I lost a dog over thirty years ago and I still get tears in my eyes when I'm around his grave. Let yourself cry and don't worry about what others think or say. Just remember that story about a little boy and his dad that were walking out of the vet's office after having to put their dog "to sleep". The little boy looked at his dad, with tears in his eyes and asked, "dad are there puppies in heaven"? The dad knelt down, allowing tears to stream down his cheeks. "Of course there are, it wouldn't be heaven without puppies".

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved hamster. Animals do become just like one of the family, don't they?
All of the above answers are excellent. But if you do get a new hamster, don't consider it a replacement for the one you lost. Love it for itself.

Yeah, just remember the good times you had with your hamseter. He/She is in a better place. Your hamster doesn't want you to be sad over his/her death. Just smile! Memories are forever.

I lost a pet 6 months ago. She was a cat who gave me her undivided love. I picked out her favourite spot in the garden and having placed her body in one of my t-shirts, I buried her. I cried my eyes out for days. I was truly heartbroken. I adopted another cat a month later. Although she was different in her ways, we soon bonded. I am now happy. I will never forget my old friend, but I know I gave her a wonderful life, and can see her resting place every day. Time will heal your sorrow. Jim

Just be thankful you gave that animal a good happy life.
It could have had a real bad owner, who was cruel to it, but it
was lucky it got you! Have no regrets you will be happy again.
