It depends upon whether or not you need a base salary or if you have enough savings to go commission only.
If you go the department store route, then go to the cosmetics or shoe departments. They at least pay a commission. Stay away from car sales; those people will eat you for breakfast. I love real estate sales, but these days, you had better have some bucks in your pocket because sales are slow and it is an expensive career.
Electronics sales can be good if you are on commissions plus salary as well. The higher the ticket, the more the commission, depending upon the commission structure. Get some experience selling something you like and believe in. Without that, you will not really be any good at it. If you love and believe in your product, you will sell tons of it, and that is the secret behind almost any good sale person.

I have found that if you can stay one step ahead of the baby boomers you cannot go wrong. This gives you an 18 year window of opportunity, just as Gerber enjoyed in the 40's and 50's, Fisher Price and Mattel in the 60's, Real Estate in the 70's, etc.
What the boomers are looking for now is health and anti-aging. It is fast becoming a trillion dollar industry. The boomers are fast becoming empty-nesters now, most are open to an alternate stream of income and have the most disposable income.
But if you have a product that not only the baby boomers are looking for but is of benefit to everyone, then you know you are in the right place at the right time.
I have found that product and it is now spreading world wide. It is benefitting people in both health and anti-aging, so I would consider it the best product to sell.

Sell something to women and teenagers. Find a need and sell that. Sell something that everyone wants or needs.
Example, a gadet to attach to cellphones. (most people have one)
Or something that makes life easier, more pleasant.
Example, a single machine that washes and dries cloths. (of course you'd have to actually invent this one)
Women and teenagers will buy things that they don't really need, it's more on an emotional level.
As a woman, I've purchased clothes that I can't even wear, just because I like them. I'll convince myself I'll lose weight to fit into a cute outfit. (men on the other hand would never do this.)
If you're looking for something specific you should sell, I'm not sure you'll find "the" answer you're looking for. Hell if so, we'd all be selling it!

What type of slaes are you interested in? There are all kinds of things that would good to sell. You are going to want to sell something in a market that is about to explode. If you are interested, I may have something for you!
