We love ours personally it is all you other people that trouble us.
A joke but not far from the truth.I grew up in a time when it was still said that, "I don't agree with what you say but I will fight for your right to say it.",you don't hear it much any more.

First let me just say that free speech in America is the embodiment of who we as Americans are,but the problem is that when our forefathers wrote the freedom of speech into the U.S. Constitution it wasn't meant to be a medium for hatred and bigotry and a means to trounce on others civil liberties. While those who bend freedom of speech for hurtful means is a very small percentage of the population people do take offense to it. All in all we as Americans should be proud that we live in a country with the freedom of speech without persecution, but also remember that our freedoms come with a price and we should choose our words wisely.

Most people equate free speech with their right to say anything they want, but not the right of others to respond, rebut or repudiate what they say.
Most people also don't understand that the concept of free speech is the freedom to dissent and the inability of government to stifle expressions of support or dissent.
Private enterprises, like message boards or online communities have rules or guidelines, and enforcing those isn't an infrigement of the right to not have government interefere with our expression.

People have been a tribal race.for millions of years they have lived in tribes. if anyone was different they were killed, taken as slaves. our just run off.Its a part of human nature to hurt anyone thats different , that is for the people who act like animals.and are not cultured.disa gree with an french man they argue, dis agree with an american they wont to fight.a lot of times. there s some americans who like me would fight or even die for the right for someone to disagree with them.we are more violent them most peoples I think. a nation of sheep who follow blindly there leaders.Thank God were wakeing up a little bit about our leader Bush, the decider.I as a Southerner wil now go out and burn an american flag in my back yard.as I usually do on saturdays. since that flag was the one that was flown into battle against Southerners In the war of northern aggression.I actually dont burn the flag. but I have the right to do so. as people should.

Most Americans dont actually mind free speech. Its when people attempt to incite racial hatred and terrorism, to name a few, that Americans get upset. Even down to the point that many people feel they can burn the American flag as a symbol of free speech. Thats fine if you want to burn our flag, but don't get pissed off when we burn your Koran, or your flag or something sacred to you or your culture or religion. Free speech swings both ways and I believe more Americans would support it if those claiming free speech wouldnt claim racism when we, as Americans, either defend ourself or say exactly what we want as well

I love free speech. However, on Yahoo Answers I don't like it when people call others stupid, homos, retards, etc because they don't like hearing other people's opinions that are different from their own.
There's a difference between free speech and name calling on a private website which has standards against such behavior.

That's a very good question. I think there are still too many overly conservative people in the country as well as too many overly sensitive people that are offended by just about everything. Personally, the only that offends me is censorship....I get sick of one person or group of people telling everyone else what they can or can't do or say.....ESPECIALLY IN THEIR OWN HOMES!!!

Usually when somebody gets their feelings hurt is when they are against free speech!!!! For example, on answers, tell the truth and show sources and watch how many times you get reported!!

It's the fact that not everyone shares their opinion. We hate being told we're wrong, and we hate being challenged (I am proud to say I am one of the (many) exceptions to the rule.). That and some of these morons are stuck in the 20th century (banning gay marriage? Puh-leaze. Welcome to the new millenium, people!).
