I still don't get how you can be one with the Internet because in my opinion the Internet is a source of communication with others so it is virtually impossible.

I think you mean "at one" with the internet - or be familiar with it. (And don't just talk to it & tell it your name!!!).
Buy a computer book from your local shop (any bookshop, not specialist computer shop), & hopefully you can grasp the basics from there. Good luck!!! (And ignore the prats who are making 2 points at your expense).
