Buy larger capacity sticks of ram like 512MB sticks or 1GB sticks.

FIRST: You have to make sure your motherboard will accept RAM cards with a larger capacity.

e.g. You may have a 256M max capacity for each slot. Therefore putting in a 512M stick simply will not work. Usually the PC will only recognize an appropriate RAM card. So if you were to put in a 512M, not only will it not recognize the 512 but it will not even recognize the first 256M of it. It simply will not recognize the card.

Normally the Motheboard's manual will provide a matrix that will define how much memory is allowed in each slot.

So check your MoBo manual, and then go to either http://www.crucial.com or http://www.4allmemory.com and use their wizards to help you determine exactly what kind of RAM you have in your PC.

Hope this helps.

The only way to do that is to pull out the old RAM and replace it with larger capacity chips. Also, be sure to check what your computer can handle, most modern laptops will max out at 2GB of RAM, some can handle 4GB. Older ones are going to have lower limits. If you put in more RAM than the system can handle, then either you'll have wasted the excess RAM as the system won't use it, or the system won't be able to read it at all and your computer won't boot.

that is good advice, however you also have to make sure that the computers motherboard can support larger sticks. If the computers ram slots can only handle 512mb sticks and you try to put a 1 GB stick in it, it will either blue screen, or just not recognize the additional memory.

Like The Lunatic says, but first check what the max RAM is that the laptop can handle.
If you install more than the computer handles, then the extra will not show up and will be wasted, money wise.

Most places that sell ram can check your system and tell you what you need to upgrade.Remember your system upgradeability is set by your motherboard.Compusa is a good place. If you buy the RAM there they will install it for free.Remember computers work best if you buy matched stickes of RAM.

replace the old ram with better ones, ie with more capacity, for example if you had slots with 512mb replace them with a gb or if you have 1gb replace that with 2gb.

Buy a 512mb stick of RAM but if you get to high of an amount you can burn up your hard drive. Take safety procautions first.
