Most of the time, computers are NOT running slow; they are simply running A LOT of programs and routines you did not ask them to (using Windows I mean). So each time everyone of us have a "slow-running" feeling from our computers, we ask them to run even more programs or routines (ie. sarting anti-virus or memory-cleeanning or whatever programs you might think of). So here is my advice: 1) you have to be sure that your computer is only running those programs need or you want them to (this might be a pretty hard task to do, specially if you know very little about windows), one tip is to use the Task-Manager and see what is currently running without you knowing it. 2) Look in the Start-up section of the msconfig program to get rid of programs you don't need. 3) finally try all cleanning and de-virusing stuff. GOOD LUCK

it may not be viruses. Your Hard Drive might need defragging and/or there may be too many startup programs. To defrag, open "my computer", Rt Click on Drive C, Select "properties", then "tools" tab, then select "defragment now".
To look at startup programs, hit Start button, Select the "run" command, and type "msconfig". Look at the list of startup programs and deselect the ones you don't want to start up when the computer boots.

have you tried the simple proceedure of defragmenting? Sometimes it's a problem with "sticky keys" and you gotta hold down the shift key for 8 seconds and get into it and change it. I know you purge your temp files regularly.
So get a big removable disk and put all the stuff you want on that and then get a disk to reformat your hard drive and rei-nstal your windows. Worked for me.

You should keep your important files backed up on an external hard drive anyway. Try doing a restore, but if your computer is over three years old you might consider buying a new one.
