Constipation or irregularity, is a condition of the digestive system where a person experiences hard feces that are difficult to eliminate; it may be extremely painful, and in severe cases lead to symptoms of bowel obstruction. Causes of constipation may be dietary, hormonal, a side effect of medications, and anatomical. Treatment is with a change in dietary habits, laxatives, fiber therapy, enemas, and rarely surgery.

The main causes of constipation are -
Insufficient intake of dietary fiber
Dehydration
Medication, e.g. diuretics and those containing iron, calcium, aluminium

Ways to overcome this complaint -
In people without medical problems, the main intervention is the increase of fluids (preferably water) and dietary fiber. The latter may be achieved by consuming more vegetables and fruit, whole meal bread and by adding linseeds to one's diet. The routine non-medical use of laxatives is to be discouraged as this may result in bowel action becoming dependent upon their use.

Enemas and clysters are a remedy occasionally used for hospitalized patients in whom the constipation has proven to be severe, dangerous in other ways, or resistant to laxatives. Sorbitol, glycerin and arachis oil suppositories can be used. Severe cases may require phosphate solutions introduced as enemas

First drink plenty of water. at regular intervals. (The human body requires at Least 3 litres). You can obtain a natural medicinal remedy from a Chemist called "Senekot." It comes in a syrup or tablet form. If that fails there is also a stronger one called "Movicol." If that doesn't clear the tubes consult your doctor as there would be something quite serious about your condition.

Drink lots of fluids. . .and watch fluids that contain caffine as they are diuretics(diuretics cause you to pee more and lose body moisture).
Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Avoid an over abundance of dairy products as they tend to cause constipation.
In the event of problems in eliminating due to constipation, try some prune juice.

If it's a fix you're looking for, bananas usually do the trick for me. Dragonfruit and guava also give me the runs, but that's provided they're available where you are.
