This is an interesting question, this would usually be a question of personal preference, to each is his or her own. Though, for me music is such a broad subject and for anyone with an open mind it is a difficult question to answer without bias. With the commercialization of music, record executives shape what we hear on the radio, I would say this was more of a problem with old music because today the capabilities of the internet (myspace, youtube etc.) bands can deliver their work to the masses without the hassle of dealing with a large record company that could deem their work unacceptable.

So in that way, new music is better. Although fundamentally, much of the old music we love so much set precedents which inspire the new artists today to innovate and set even more precedents for the next generation. I think it would be naive to say old music is better than new music, or vice versa. If you look at the spectrum of music there are always elements that try do dumb down creativity. However, there will always be innovators that defy what the institution deems acceptable, that somehow make it into the mainstream to leave their unique impression on the history of music.

I think the old music is better and evidently a lot of young people of this generation thinks so too, judging by their questions and answers, they mention the old classic bands quite a bit...it just is better...hands down compared to today's stuff...

To be honest with you it all depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Sometimes I like to listen to the "oldies" then there are other times when I like new music. It just all depends the mood I'm in.
