I use broadband but I need to also use dial up to sign into certain servers which are incompatible with my ISP. However, as soon as I plug the phone cable into the computer, it effectively picks the receiver up immediately. It does not dial out but it prevents me dialing a number through dial up. No programs need be running when this happens. Any ideas why?

have you ever tried to eliminate the dail up connection and then redo it. basically, the only clarification why the laptop right now connects often times has to do with the classes on your laptop. Like in case you have an Anit-virus application that ought to be on the internet to run, a Firewall, or the different information superhighway based classes. considering you uninstalled and re-put in 2 distinctive modems then my wager is that there is a application on your laptop it is making the laptop connect itself.

Your computer is infected with the virus. Please run your antivirus programs and your, anti spy ware programs. The virus is attempting to dial home. Spy bot search and destroy is one of the better anti spy ware programs. Good luck!
