Yes, I believe PS 2 games can be played on PS 3 but for pirated ones, I'm unsure. However, if you've modifications done, yes I think pirated games can be used too.

Yes it should but the latest news that i read said that the backward compatability is not working for ps2 and ps1. But Sony try to find solution by provide their customer with software upgrade later.
