Amsterdam, November 18: The Dutch government agreed on Friday a total ban on the wearing of burqas and other Muslim face veils in public, justifying the move on security grounds.
Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk will now draw up legislation which will result in the Netherlands, once one of Europe's most easy-going nations, imposing some of the continent's toughest laws against concealing the face.
"The cabinet finds it undesirable that garments covering the face -- including the burqa -- should be worn in public in view of public order, (and) the security and protection of fellow citizens," the Dutch Justice Ministry said in a statement.
The debate on face veils and whether they stymie Muslim integration has gathered momentum across Europe.

What ever may be the religious rules, one should follow the rules and regulations of the country one is living. So, the action taken by Dutch government is to be followed by Muslims.
A Muslim can marry and have four wives, as per his religion. Should this be followed by them?
It is the laws of the land rules over the religious rules. Every one should follow the laws of the land. Religious rules should be within the four walls of his house or worshipping place

I hadn't heard approximately this. There could be a solid reason - the Dutch are ordinary for their tolerance. i'm hoping you get some smart solutions. i in my opinion do no longer think of that the burqa is comparable to wearing crosses, or orange robes. that's a cultural component, no longer a non secular one; Muslims from Pakistan, as an occasion, do no longer positioned on it. that's often a barrier to integration; consistent with threat it particularly is why the Dutch have banned it. Headscarves, on the different hand, are a call for of the Qu'ran, I comprehend, and Muslim women could be allowed to positioned on them.

oh...real clever and courageous Netherlands.
If you listen to people on the street, the problem is rising street crime caused by predominantly North African young men, who are not economically or socially integrated with the Netherlands.
So, instead of cracking down on street crime, what does Verdonk do instead? target Muslim women instead.
They are not the ones causing all the problems . Indeed, they can be part of the solution, putting their sons and brothers back on track. The men now have a new casus bellai against Dutch, while they keep their women indoors since they can't go to university uncovered.
Typical Old Europe way of thinking - let the state force others how to think, and because we do not have the balls to go against the real villains, we will just target the women.

I believe everyone has the right to dress according to their beliefs. Im from Europe and I know why the dutch government is taking those mesures. But if we start banning to muslims, they will become more radical.

i think the fact that an election is due soon might have something to do with the governments decision, they are catering to the least well informed and racist members of their society in order to win votes
