Central Processing Unit. That's the main part of your computer that has the drives, motherboard, etc.

Nateholio is right, the CPu is not the "main part of your computer that has the drives, motherboard, etc." The CPU, or Central Processing Unit, is a chip, typically about 2" x 2" in size (or smaller), depending on the type, which fits in a socket on the motherboard. This chip's sole purpose is running mathematical calculations. The computer uses these calculations to do everything it does, so yes it is essentially the brain of the computer. You will hear numbers associated with a CPU like 2.8GHz (gigahertz). These are measurements of speed, or how many calculations the CPU can do in a second (it's actually a little more complicated than that, but it gives you an idea of how it works). The higher the number, the faster the CPU, the more calculations the computer can do in a given period of time, the faster you can run programs, or the more complex are the programs you can run. There are other factors that affect the computer's overall performance, but the CPU speed is a major part of it.

I don't mind helping with information on these topics, but questions like this are best answered by running a search of websites or looking up the information on a site like wikipedia.org. You can find a wealth of information on the topic without waiting for answers, or asking people to answer something that has been answered many times over already. Please always try searching for an answer to your question before you post it, chances are someone else has already asked and answered.

CPU = Central Processing Unit.

Contrary to what many people think, a CPU IS NOT the entire motherboard, drives, RAM, etc. It is just another word for microprocessor.
