This is nothing to be alarmed about really. It is a routine check to see if there is any curvatures in your spine. A condition known as scoliosis. Most people like myself are born with this ailment but it doesn't usually show up until you are older like your age. Depending on the severity of your curvature of the spine, will depend if you are to wear a back brace to correct it or if you need back surgery. Some curves in the spine are mild and don't require any treatment.

What did the nurse tell you about your back? Do you have a curve in your back or are you okay? Early detection is important for people your age. The earlier they can help you the better off you will feel in the future. I had to wear a back brace for a year. I was 13 at the time.

Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful.

Oh, I remember those days.

Yep, just a scoliosis test, to make sure that your spine has developed properly.

As long as it was a private situation, with just you and the nurse, and you don't feel like anything inapropriate happened, it's fine.

If anything happened that made you feel uncomfortable, like other girls being present, or someone making inappropriate comments, or even just the fact that they didn't explain what they were doing and it made you nervous... talk to your parents or a trusted adult about it. They can suggest that the school approach the situation differently next time, or at least explain in detail what's going to happen to you. I remember that a lot of kids were afraid that it was going to hurt when I was younger, as no one ever properly explained it to us.

Even if you're in school, you have the right to your privacy, and a right to feel comfortable knowing what's happening and why. If you didn't like the way it was handled, tell someone so that other girls don't have to go through the same situation in the future.

If no one speaks up, they'll never know anything is wrong, and it'll never change. At the very least, it needs to be explained to you better before it happens.

Take care.

This is a test they normally do in 6-8 grades to check your back for Scoliosis.

Scoliosis is defined as lateral curvature of the spine with rotation.

it was just a Scoliosis test. i had the test too every year in middle school and they made us do the same thing. but both students and parents were notified before hand. just as long as it was done privatly.. in other words they had curtains up or had u go into a seprate room with the nurse then its perfectly ok.

My daughter is in middle school and all the students were given the same test. It was to check for curvature of your spine. The test would have been done unless your parent requested it not be done.

Sounds like they were looking for scoliosis. The school should have had parents permission before they did this though. I would be inclined to inform your parents, maybe the other students should do the same. I think the parents should know.

when I was in middle school we did that too. They do it to all schools, yes they made us take off our shirts. It is normal, they are just checking for scoliosis. I'm a sophmore now.

Hi , this is a normal test to check your spine..The school i attended did the same to us in our school. this was to see if we had any curves that weren't suppose to be there. Wow that was almost 30 years ago, so it is normal.

Tell them next time or something instead of taking the entire thing off they should just pull it up.

They were checking you for scoliosis. It's a good test to have done but only with your parent's permission.
