Now for a serious answer. All states have regs or laws that protect workers against discrimination and harrassment. Perhaps the reason for your lack of work falls into one of these categories. Ask yourself why the manager is favoring other workers, is he profiting from these workers in some way, is there some personal reason, is he violating your company's policies. If it is not a case of harrassment or discrimination, I would write to the company's human resources dept, and state my case, keep a copy; this will bolster your unemployment claim, if it comes to that. If this manager is cheating you, then he is probably doing other things , befriend the other workers and find out what is really going on. You don't give enough info, do you have a union, can you think about starting one. Go to your states dept. of labor website and learn all you can about regs and laws. Good Luck!

As you've been told, it depends on your contract. If you don't have a contract, you're an "employee at will" which means that either side can terminate the relationship for any reason.

Your lesson should be that you should NEVER "ride it out" with an employer that is having money problems. You must look out for yourself -- after all, isn't that what your employer is doing (looking out for himself)?

I would contact the unemployment office and see if you can draw some unemployment since you have been a full time employee for so many years. Let them help you.

Yea, they can cut your hours and they can lay you off.
If, it look as it will stay this way you need to find out the "Rules" for unemployment. You may make more on unemployment and not work at all. You "MAY" be able to quit legally and draw unemployment to find another full time job as you can not live on what you make now. I not sure how this works, you NEED to find out.

An employer can do what ever they want unless you have a contract stating othewise. Sounds like it is time for you to get a new employer. You can "fire" your employer.

You need to check your contract. If you do not have a contract, your employer can do what they like. If you are not happy seek legal advice.

Yep, as long as you not a member of one of the protected classes (i.e. those that the ACLU represents).
