federal government?

Question

correct me if i am wrong, but isn't the federal government's job to protect america and her interests from terrorism?

if so, then why the hell are the giving out welfare and social services. they have gotten in business they should be out of. They should be monitering terrorists and updating security.

It is the obligation of the Federal Government to provide defense for the states. The Preamble to the Constitution states that one purpose of the new Constitution (as opposed to the Articles of Confederation) was to promote the general welfare. However, Franklin Roosevelt would roll over in his grave if he saw what has become of social services today. What was intended is not the system that exists and we all know that.

I agree that the funds that go to maintain this system that promotes helplessness and slothfullness (some are NOT abusing the system), could be better spent on job/educational training for those who receive monetary support from the welfare system.

The REAL question is why do we allow it to continue? Why are we not pushing our legislators to end this wasteful use of our tax dollars? I want my taxes used to promote an educated, hard-working populace that can compete and economically surpass any other nation. We ARE falling behind! We Will lose the race because we perpetuate ignorance and laziness. The welafre system should be made to encourage people to get OFF of it! I'd love some stats on the average amount of time recipants stay on welare..

One last thing, when a family applies for welfare, no additional aid should be given for additional children once aid has started and single young women under the age of 21 should NOT be given rent subsidies so that they can move out of the parent's home and be allowed to receive welfare aid. They should be the parent's responsibilty......just my opinion......I'd like to have more federal money available for student loans, old age pensions, parks, recreation, conservation, scientific study, health insurance for the working poor, etc.

We have allowed ourselves to vote largesse to ourselves from the federal treasury. We need to go back to the constitution and eliminate those programs that aren't constitutional. However, the money flow won't ever allow this to happen until those who foot the bill decide not to foot that bill anymore. As we know, the top 5% of taxpayers pay over 60% of the taxes in America. Imagine what could be accomplished if the federal and state governments would remove the roadblocks and stop punishing achievement.

Welfare and Social Assistance is given out by Your Municipal Government. First the Federal Government gives X number of dollars to each State / Province - then the dole out the money to the Cities,Towns,Townships,Counties, etc. So it is NOT your Federal G government. You forgot your schools and hospitals, again your municipal government. From now on, tells us what Country you are in.
