have you been influenced by modern views?
In the old days witches were depicted as ugly vile creatures. But in modern times they are depicted as beautiful.
ex. charmed, bewitched ect...

lol... yes, the inner child in me (which controls my imagination at times) sees an old woman with a long nose, grayish black hair with a black hat, short with a hunched back, riding on a broom... but evil (if that's what witches really are) comes in many shapes and sizes and looks... :-)

Witches I think it was something made up to scare children so that they would be good, I think that there is no such truth to what a witch actually is, some would say I was a witch! And I am beautiful, charmed, but do not get me wrong do not get me on my bad days there is hell to pay!

I still think of the old fashioned witch such as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz.

Two images...Margaret Hamiliton in the Wizard of Oz and Billie Burke or Glenda the Good Witch...both sides of the witchdom...the old hag and the beautiful good witch. I feel like modern day witches look just like you n me tho...

Without looking at the other answers, as you requested, I visualize some rather ordinary people who have an active fantasy life, and decorate themselves with various artistic designs which have no bearing on the sources they claim.
Many of them tend to be overweight, because they expect some magical operation to take care of problems which are better handled by the applications of mundane methods.

Honestly the first thing I think of is the old image of a witch on a broomstick with a wart on her nose, black pointy hat etc.

I did not think of a witch itself but the costume for it. I think of the black witch hat , dress and a broom stick.
