I bought a water heater that compared the two. For the electric model, it was 99% efficient; for the gas, 83%. Electric causes no fumes like gas so it doesn't require a duct--which is a conduit for the gases, and inevitably some heat, to escape.

Gas is greener. Methane gas(natural gas) occurs naturally from the earth. Electric has to be produced by burning coal or natural gas.

Gas is currently cheaper than electric,
bare in mind the electricity has to be generated, either coal, gas, oil or nuclear.

Natural gas burns very cleanly and is not manufactured. Electricity is produced by burning coal and oil and wood among other methods and it's production causes air polution.
Gas is by far greener.
Natural gas is mostly methane which is also produced in the digesting of food. You should smell my brother-in-law wheeew!! is he green.

I thought a gas oven was a little cheaper to run and have as long as you had the pilotless ignition.

You might like a gas stove better, it heats faster and when you turn it off , it stops heating as soon as the flame goes out.
