resonance tube...

in a closed pipe, (the water filled tube can be considered a closed pipe...the water is the adjustable end) when waves enter, and hit the end, it will be reflected back....
it will resonate when the part of your wave (node) will hit the end (barrier) and be reflected back and so you hear the intense sound.... if it is not a node like an antinode, it will not resonate.. you will not hear an intense sound.. all you hear is the sound from the tuning fork....
the nice thing about resonance tube is the varrying of the length of your closed tube.... and be able to find the length at which sound resonates at a certain frequency.....
