I made a friend in a new student that arrived 2 weeks ago. I was, I believe, the first personn he met and we became friends. He's pretty nice, but some other people aren't so nice to the "new kid." He sits at a lunch table with only one other boy. I sit with them too. He's pretty much a loner.
The problem is, the most popular girl in school (though nice) now has a crush on him. She asked me to ask him if he liked her, but he said: "I don't know her yet....so not yet."
Now I know that whether he likes her or not, he will ask her out because after being such a loner, the prospect of having Miss Popular as your girlfriend could shoot you right up the high school social ladder.
I know that after becoming Miss Popular's bf, this guy will drift into their crowd of drinking, drug talk,& plain dirty stuff. He won't hangout with us "innocent folk" anymore.
Now, he even interrupts our talks to ask about Ms. Popular. Is he going to drift away and become a "popular"? Will I lose a friend??

I'm advising you, not judging you. Your personality seems driven by an understandable need to popular or at least to fit in. If you want to maximize your social options here, you need to keep this Johnny-come-Lately more distant; remember, the jury is still out on the guy. Also, on your own, you should go on-line and do a background check on him; make sure he's not a dangerous person. Test him secretly on his past when you have some basic information. That way you find out if he's a basically honest person. Newcomers tend to lose their appeal, it's rarely the other way around. You need to put yourself in a position to disassociate from him (without damaging your reputation) if necessary. He may not be friendship material.

Hmm. Well If this guy is a REAL friend he will stay your friend no matter what! And maybe if he "shoots" up the social latter maybe he'll take u with him! And if he duz go out with miss popular dont worry, if they dont work out he might turn to you for comfort and maybe something will happen and you'll be the next gf! then u also will be a popular. If this guy gets into all those bad things then dont bother with him if hes REALLY into it, but a little bit dosent mean you cant be friends with him just dont do the stuff that he duz. Good luck! ;)

People get caught up in *Popularity* . I'm dealing with the same problem right now, its scary and very obnoxious at the same time. You love your friends and hate to deal with situations like this.

He is new and becoming popular can big a fun thing, but its also sometimes a bad thing.Tell him how you feel, I'm sure he'll understand, or tell Miss *Popular* that she needs to stop liking him for his sake.

if he is a true friend you won't lose him. If you do lose him as a friend, then he wasn't worth having as a friend in the first place.
