I'm a Londoner looking for work with 9.5 years experience in 2/3 different industries + a degree. Recruitment agencies aren't calling back much or responding to online job applications. What method do I use/ who can I talk to or approach to get a job.

I left my last job and am currently unemployed.

Look online at reed.com for jobs in your area. Also try monster.co.uk etc.

Become your own employment agency, the ones out there are only interested in themselves, write to companies or call companies that you are interested in working in and send them your CV. Ask if they have any jobs or if they would keep your CV on file for reference if any suitable positions come up. If you're only looking within your local area think about looking further afield or places that are accessible by bus rather than tube (travelling across rather than into London).

Check out smaller agencies in your area as they are more likely to have contact with local firms and are often more incentivised to work for you.

Apply for everything that you are qualified for, even if the money isn't right and then once you have an interview try to talk them into paying you more. If you're almost qualified for a job, apply for it and emphasise that you are a quick learner and pick things up easily.

Keep at it and good luck!
