RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. In other words: don't use the ankle-let it rest & heal; apply ice several times a day; wrap it in an ace bandage or ankle immobilizer & keep it elevated.
The amount of time to heal depends on how badly it was sprained. It can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.

It depends on how severe it was sprained and also how many times you sprained it before. If this is like the first time, it may take a few weeks. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks to completely heal. But what you need to do is ice it down for about 20 min. and keep it elevated. After a few days if there is no pain when you walk, you can try light running on it. If it doesn't bother you, just tape it or wrap it up. You can play on a sprained ankle as long as it is wrapped properly to support the damaged ligaments.

rest is the best treatment. Trust me, you don't and shouldn't go out and play basketball right away. These sprains take time to heal, depending on how bad you sprained it. You don't want to go out and risk injuring it again, I know that by experience. My ankle is so weak now from spraining it to much. Don't make the same mistake I made, trust me!
Go to the store and get some sort of ankle wrap, cause it's best to stable it. When you do that, it generally heals faster.
I Hope you feel better soon, good luck

1st day ace ice elevate, 2nd day start heat and gentle range of motion, continue and advance this as tolerated. can take weeks for a bad sprain sometimes worse than a fracture.

take some hot water and put some salt in it and than put your feet inside that water for about 10-15 minutes than put it out and go to sleep in your bed...when you will do that it will heal in abut 3-4 days..
