I recently had to reinstall windows xp sp2(bootleg w/key) due to a virus. I cleared my C drive and did a fresh install. but i didnt reformat my hard drive. we' ll get back to that. once installation started it came across a driver.cab error, i proceeded to install skipping these files. now that installation was complete i no longer have sound, no volume control or mixer devices. audio drivers show working properly but i get a "error streamci.dll message" . In device manager the volume control is grayed out. Ive tried everything known to man. will a stored bought sound card come with the necessary mixer devices that windows xp sp provide? or do i need to just break down and buy a legal copy of windows Xp? I also read that some files may get corrupted due to spyware in plug in play, should i have reformatted my harddrive before I did my installation? please help. no sound, no happy:(

be an easier fix to bite the bullet and buy a legit copy of XP ... but yes buying a cheap soundcard should fix your problem

Hi. Just FYI, I recently 'upgraded' my Win XP using MS's upgrade utility. My reward for sending them $149 was having Office XP disabled (which meant no spellcheck) , some legal DVD software got erased, and they shut down my PC in the middle of a F@H project (which I do voluntarily) without my permission. This stopped the PC at the login screen. Not real happy with my decision.

Do a search for the missing .dll files. : http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/S/streamci.dll/5.1.2600.0/download.html
Good luck!

Since the "no sound" problem started after your installed XP then you should remove the XP and test the sound if it does not work then you should fully scan your system for viruses cause some viruses can disable your sound system. Also go to my computer=>device manager and search for you audio device and enable it this should solve your problem.

My experience is there always going to be a dll. file missing or corrupted on an illegal copy.
Do you really believe Msoft does not know what they are doing. I am not sure of this next statement but It would not surprise me if MSoft is also involved in illegal sales as well. A lot of money is made in illegal sales.
