I have pet insurance on my dog and pay about $35/month and totally think it's worth it. I've had big vet bills in the past (an accident and then cancer) and don't want to have to face the decision of whether or not to put my dog down or continue treatment again. Vet bills are too expensive these days to be without it, in my mind.
I did do some checking on premiums increasing as pets age, but in running the numbers for older dogs, it still seemed worth it (at least with the company I chose). Now that so many companies offer online comparisons, it's easier to research, I think.
I also looked at complaints.com and consumeraffairs.com before purchasing.

Yes, there is such a thing. But they are not cost effective.
Here is an excerpt from Consumer Reports:
"Unless you can't resist a breed with chronic problems, pet insurance will probably cost you more money than it will save you. As with human health insurance, you'll pay deductibles, co-pays, and premiums, and you may bump up against lifetime payment ceilings if you own a chronically ill pet. In addition, you might find some needed treatments are excluded from coverage. Some policies also limit the amount they will pay per incident and may make you pay higher co-pays as your pet ages. For example, with PetCare's QuickCare Gold policy for dogs, you could pay $36 monthly premiums for coverage for a 3-month-old bearded collie. If that pooch needs $3,000 pacemaker surgery next year, you'll have to pay a $50 deductible, after which the plan pays 100 percent (up to a limit of $3,000) of your costs. Not a bad deal, because you will have paid just more than $430 in premiums. But if the surgery occurs after that dog turns 8 years old, the plan will only pay 80 percent of your costs and you'll be out about $3,500 in premiums. If you want to set aside money for future medical bills, you might do better by putting the amount you'd pay in premiums into a savings account."

Yes, but be very careful because alot of them are scams. Call a reputable insurance company like State Farm and ask them if they can offer you some names of companies that offer pet insurance. Your Vet might also have a few names. Before signing up, check with the consumer protection agency and make sure they have not had any serious complaints.

Yes, but it is often better to simply put the cost of the medical insurance into a savings account that you only use for pet veterinary care as many pet insurances do not cover the most common problems.

Yes. I have two Siberian Huskies and I have them both on an insurance plan with Banfield Pet Hospital (they are located inside most PetSmart stores)

Yes,but its expensive go over to petfinder.com one of the ads are up there....I had it free for a month because I got a dog from a rescue but I felt that the co--pay was expensive. I suppose if you have some really extraordinary event happened that it might pay off but most pets don't need that.

Yes, you can buy "pet insurance" but, it's expensive and unless your pet has major medical problems, it's usually not worth the price.

Banfield--the vet inside Pet Smart.
They have a payment plan for services, which saves you money. It is like a health plan. It includes visits and shots, and discounts on surgeries.
