A woman got kicked off a plane for breast feeding her child, and maybe that was wrong, but the child was almost 2 years old!
Does the mother plan to breast feed the kid until the kid is 16?
What do you think?

For those who didnt read the ENTIRE question, this is NOT about how old the MOTHER should be.

The woman shouldn't have been kicked off the plane for doing that...
But I think 2 years old is too old to still be breastfed. A baby should be breastfed for at least 6 months for optimum benefits. I breastfed mine for 7 months but would have gone a bit longer if I hadn't gotten her on a bottle so I could leave her with my mother for a week while I went on a vacation with my husband....when I came back she didn't want to go back to it so she stayed on the bottle but was completely off that at 13 months.
I met a woman once (she almost bought my house) who while visiting me sat down and breastfed her little boy who was 2. I thought it was really really weird but I didn't say anything. The mother was kind of an organic, nature, loner kind of person...she said she was an anarchist and didn't own a tv. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

That's up to the mother an the child. Many cultures breastfeed until age 7 or so. I think it's completely normal to nurse until the child weans on their own. However, for the safety of the new baby, any mom who becomes pregnant while still breastfeeding their older baby should wean the older child. We're far too caught up in what's right and wrong when it comes to nursing. That's an entirely personal decision.

For about the first year, give or take. My youngest nursed until he was about 16 months, but only because he was so attached. I think it was also because I knew he was my last, and I was going to miss that bond. I would have been uncomfortable nursing up to age 2, but I know a few people that have.

The woman should not have been kicked off the plane for making her own choice for her child.

All medical studies have shown that breastfeeding for 1 to 2 years is best for the health of both baby & mother.

America is one of the few nations in the world that discourages breastfeeding. Mothers are made to feel like criminals because they choose to do the right thing.

So sad it makes people uncomfortable, those people should grow up.

Some of my uptight friends suggest I go to the bathroom to feed my daughter. I suggest they do the same thing too. If you would not take a plate into the bathroom to eat your dinner, why should my daughter and I be sent to the filthiest, germiest place there is?

Breastfeeding until age 2 is completely healthy, becoming bothered by it is just plain prudish and stupid.

U'r s'psed to breast feed ur child exlusively for 6months and thereafter, for about a yr with other supplements. that is one & half years ie in total. Mothers hav been know to stretch that till 2 yrs cos of attachment to their kids Not that i support that), In other words, breastfeeding yor child to 2yrs it is completely allowed. But, getting kicked off a plane? Wasn't that in violation of her rights?

I think the fact that the mother got sent away is a shameful testimony to the prudishness and hypocrisy that prevails in some cultures that think of themselves as "free" and "liberal".
The fact that people are put off by breastfeeding shows how unhealthy their societal values are.

I think it is a natural and personal thing to be decided by the mother. How dare other to even challenge a mother to do this is beyond my comprehension.
