get an additional memory chip. Well, first you might want to open up your computer and see if you HAVE an extra slot open to use. If so, undo the clips and pop the chip out (after disconnecting all power of course) ~ also, make sure you are grounded when you pull it and put it in an anti static bag or one of those plastic bags used for computer parts. You can take it to you local Frys (or computer store) and get a chip. Also, you can always do a few other things without spending $$ to free up RAM.
Remove as many things from the startup folder as you can - probably all of the garb in there is not something you have to have preloaded. Clean out all of the garb in the Prefetch folder too. Also think about getting a good registry cleaner (like regvac). Free as much space from your HD as possible.
Remove any uneccesary applications, run the hard drive clean up tools and defrag. Tweak the system > advanced > performance > settings. Under visual effects make sure it is set to best performance. click advanced > change >select system managed size and set.
You should get much better performance - maybe enough to give you a similar result as if you added memory. there are also some accelorators but I have seen nothing but problems with them (especially the free ones). If you have any loaded (free ones) remove them and run some adware programs to clean up the system - you likely have some of that bogging things down too. Last, there is a free program (not adware infested either) called "freeram".
